Filed under: Freebies — by Jamswife @ 9:22 pm

Did you get a chance to enjoy Free Iced Coffee today from Tim Hortons?  I took the opportunity to go for an nice walk in the beautiful weather to grab one this afternoon.  And I must say that it was WAY better then the iced coffee from starbucks.

Also don’t forget about free hamburger day at Harveys on May 24th.  Gotta love when companies put on promotions like this!

Get your Starters ready

Filed under: Series of Unforunate Events — by Jamswife @ 11:07 pm

Well it looks like the starter is gone on JAMs truck.  Hopefully it will be fixed by tomorrow, since he really needs his truck for work.  We will see how much damage this will do to our budget…  I love our machanic and know that he will charge what is fair for parts and labour, so here is hoping the bill won’t be to big!

So about that Emergency Fund….

Filed under: Emergency Fund — by Jamswife @ 12:04 am

JAMs truck died last night.  He worked all day and then stopped by the LCBO on his way home, and when he got back out to the truck it would not start….

The battery is fine, but the starter does nothing at all.  We have CAA (a plus membership for JAM since he drives to so many different places) which is excellent, because they towed his truck to our mechanic over an hour away at no charge.  So now we just need to wait to see what actually needs to be repaired.  I am hoping it is just a lose wire, rather then the whole started needing to be replaced….  Here is hoping, but this is what we have emergency funds for!

Busy busy busy

Filed under: Money Honey — by Jamswife @ 1:59 am

It has been pretty busy around our house lately, so I haven’t been able to blog as much as I would like…  I started my new job last week, which ment getting used to the commute to and from work again.  The first couple of days I could barely function when I got home because I was so tired.  Luckly that has improved, and I was even able to do some baking tonight afterwork.

JAM (my husband) has also started working at a new job site this week, and got a raise (well gave himself a raise, since he runs his own business)!!!  Now I hvae to sit down and go through all of our banking to make sure we are saving our extra income, not just spending it mindlessly.

Things on my to do list include:

1 – Open a TSFA – still need to decide where to open it, and what type of investment we are going to use

2 –  Find a new financial planner (that is a whole other post…)

3 – Look at our spending and decide how much more we can save for our emergency fund and retirement savings (and maybe the vacation fund!)

Hopefully I will be able to do most of these by the weekend, as I get my first paycheck tomorrow!

$7 on the 7th

Giving back is easy.  It doesn’t have to be big or grand, just something to help others.  My family has always been involved in supporting the community in some way.  From participating in church outreach programs, to giving to the food bank all year round.  No matter how much or little we had I was taught that you always have something to give, and it doesn’t always have to be money, your time is valuable too.

That is one reason why I LOVE the idea of $7 on the 7th, which I came across from the Liz Logelin Foundation.  Such a sweet and simple idea, donate $7 on the 7th of the month.  WIll you really miss the $7?  What is that, a couple of coffees, a lunch out.  So easy to give, and you may not think that $7 makes a difference, but if I give $7, and then a few more people give $7, and then a few more, it can make a difference.  For me it is the small things that count, and being able to give $7 is something I can do.

This month my $7 is going to the Liz Logelin Foundation.  I think I will alternate between different charities each month, as I have many causes which are close to my heart.  What is your favorite way to give back?

Well, that is my workout for the day!

Filed under: fun in the sun, gardens — by Jamswife @ 5:50 pm

Ahhhh gardening.  I love having pretty gardens, but hate actually gardening.  Well maybe hate is too strong of a word, gardening is just not really my thing.  My mother on the other hand LOVES gardening, and comes and plants all my flowers every year and then I struggle to keep them alive for the rest of the summer.

Well this year is going to be different!  I am really going to give it my best shot to to have beautiful gardens all summer long.  This will be our third summer in our house and every year I start out with the best intentions, but by the end of the summer the weeds have taken over and the plants are dead.  But not this year, yesterday I weeded both the front and back lawn (something I actually enjoy doing, strange I know) and gathered up all of the leaves that we missed in the fall.  Today I edged the front garden and ripped out everything except the bushes (hope I didn’t take out anything I was not supposed to).  But how do you tell the different between a weed and a flower when they are little anyways?!?  I even used “The Claw” to turn over the soil, it was a great workout I think I am pretty much done for the day and the front garden is ready to go.  Maybe if it is nice again tomorrow I will tackle the back gardens, that is if I am not too sore from the work I did today (I really need to get back into working out!).  How are your gardens doing?

At last….

Filed under: School — by Jamswife @ 9:47 pm

Well I am DONE, finished my last exam.  Books and notes are piled in one corner of the office waiting to be sorted and put away.  But for now, I think I am just going to enjoy the beautiful day outside!
